WATCH: Boehner Resigns

In Matthew 24:42–44, after speaking of the end times and the signs which herald His return, Jesus told His followers, “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. . . . Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Far from the “prophetic agnosticism” that marks so many Christians today, Jesus calls His people to an informed awareness of how prophecy is being fulfilled and harbingers the nearness of His return. To that end, I’ll post regular “WATCH” blog updates here that sync current events to Bible prophecy of the End Times.

In this second Watch blog post, we take a look at the ramifications of John Boehner’s resignation as Speaker of the House.

As reports of John Boehner’s resignation as Speaker came out last Friday, reporters offered vague reasons for his departure. It seems Boehner is no longer able to lead the Republican caucus. Divisions in the party have become so many and so acrimonious, he had to step down.

The Republicans aren’t the only ones whose party has fractured. The Democrats are also divided. The campaign for President in 2016 on both sides reveals how deeply contentious the race is. Campaigns have always been contentious. The difference this time is that lack of a clear favorite whose vision has captured the imagination of Americans. While different candidates surge, then fade, the overall attitude of the public is widespread distrust and apathy.

All of this points up the abysmal and glaring lack of leadership that’s one of the premier marks of our time. There is a leadership vacuum aching to be filled. That vacuum may very well be the set up for the rise of a charismatic leader to arise with a vision of the future that captures the hearts of millions.

The current leadership dearth may be the platform the Antichrist rides to power. To that end, I don’t expect to see the rise of a great and good leader before that. I’d prefer to be proven wrong, but doubt it’ll happen.
